DR ADETUNJI OLUSESAN ADENEKAN is a Senior Lecturer and Honourary Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Vitreo-Retina specialist at the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos and Guinness Eye Center, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria where he is the Head, Retina Unit and Clinical Lead, Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and Treatment Services. 

He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and his Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He also obtained a Cert. Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship from the Aravind Eye Hospital, India. He is Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.

Career focus- Medical Retina: Diabetic Retinopathy, Sickle Cell Retinopathy, Retinopathy of Prematurity and Retinal Degenerative Diseases. Surgical Retina: Ocular Oncology and Genetics.

He serves as a Training Faculty for West African College of Surgeon Medical Retina subspecialty courses supported by Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, United Kingdom, funded by the Lions International. He describes himself as an engaging and effective team worker with excellent work ethics and abilities.

He has many impactful years of service, leadership and sacrifice to the medical profession. He is a Past Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA Lagos State Branch and Immediate Past 2nd Vice President of NMA (National).

He is actively involved in various collaborative research efforts having authored and co-authored national and international peer-reviewed articles in Ophthalmology, Medical education and the field of medicine in general.
