Dr Sisay is currently the Country Director of Orbis International in Ethiopia, Dr. Alemayehu, is a senior ophthalmologist and one of the leading trachoma experts globally.

He has been a strong proponent of comprehensive eye care to alleviate the major causes of avoidable visual impairment and blindness in developing countries. His work spans from community-level engagement to prevent and treat trachoma to the establishment of tertiary eye institutes to address pediatric ophthalmology and other subspecialty eye care services.

He is passionate about trachoma elimination as a public health problem, and Dr. Alemayehu leads one of the largest trachoma elimination operations in Ethiopia and globally that touches the lives of over 11 million people annually.

He has provided technical and managerial support to a program that delivers 10th of thousands of TT surgeries annually. He is a principal investigator in groundbreaking research related to TT surgery, including HEAD START and MTSS.

Over the years, Dr. Alemayehu has led the trachoma elimination program by implementing the SAFE strategy with various stakeholders; developed training manuals and provided training to eye health professionals; actively participated in strategic eye care initiatives; designed, organized, and provided accessible and affordable comprehensive eye care services; and led GTMP activities in Southern Ethiopia. He has led the successful grant applications and program implementation for UK-AID, Irish Aid, Sight Savers International, Euromoney, USAID, END Fund, CIFF, and other institutional and corporate donors. Overall, Dr. Alemayehu has over 20 years of experience in clinical and public health practices in Ethiopia and globally.
